We meet on the 2nd Monday of each month @7:00 at:
1717 Washington Street,
Kansas City MO, 64108
MEETINGS and COVID-19:
The City of KCMO mask mandate for meetings is no longer in effect. You may still wear a mask if you like. We will also continue to Zoom the meeting to those members that don't feel comfortable at an in-person meeting or just can't attend the meeting in person. The Zoom details will be emailed to members the week before the meeting.
March 11th Regular Meeting. KC Woodturner member Phill Sykes is going to demonstrate greenwood turning. Most of us woodturners turn green wood because it is free. Phill will show us how to get the most out of our free green wood.
March11th Challenge: Make a tool handle of any style.
Please remember to pick up your 2024 KCWT Membership Card at any Woodturners regular meeting or any time the clubhouse is open (see Guild schedule). The metal card file box is beside the Guild membership card file box on the walnut counter at the clubhouse entry way. When you pay your 2024 dues, your new 2024 KCWT Membership Card will be in the metal card file box. Current membership cards give members 10% off non-electrical items at Woodcraft, Metro Hardwoods, Schutte Lumber, Rockler, Penn State, and Klingspor. This 10% off is a great member benefit. Many members use this benefit to pay for their dues many times over.
FUTURE MEETING DEMOS: At some future meeting, KC Woodturner Mike Thomas is going to demonstrate how to turn a police baton. Mike was approached by a Kansas City Kansas policeman about making him a baton to replace the one he lost. It turns out that the KC Woodturners might be turning batons for all the KCKPD graduating new recruits. Also, KC Woodturner Kevin Neelley will show how to use story boards for simplifying turning these batons.
Open Turning has started again on Wednesday and Thursday evenings 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Three 110V lathes are available on a first come first served basis. You can always drop by and talk about a project. Anthony Harris will be the shop Opener.
Electricians are now installing conduit and wiring to power the 220V Powermatic lathes and Powermatic bandsaw. These machines and the remaining 110V lathes will not be available until the wiring is complete. Watch this space for new information.
February 17th Set Up New Lathe Room. Saturday 9:00 to whenever. We need as many volunteers as possible. The new lathe room wiring is complete enough that we can set all the lathes and other machinery in their permanent positions, then test run them to verify they survived the move. We also would like to empty all the totes into their storage locations. After this work day we should be able to restart Open Turning with all the lathes on Saturday Morning February 24th. We should also be able to make coffee and have a conference table for dispensing good advice and telling tall tales.
February 24th Woodturning Event at the Discovery Center in KCMO. Your club will be demonstrating woodturning at the Anita B. We already have enough woodturning volunteers but you could come and enjoy the show. and see what the Discovery Center has to offer this day.
