BENEFITS OF JOINING
There are many benefits to becoming a member of our organization.
Gain and share knowledge. We are an informal group and we have a great time when we get together. Of course we also have a common interest, Woodturning, and we encourage you to share your skills and knowledge with us and we will do the same. Visit one of our monthly meetings (we meet the 2nd Monday of each month) and find out what we are all about.
Learn how to use a lathe and turn wood. And spin it and cut it and make beautiful things out of wood. We own 9 lathes of different sizes and manufactures and have open turning sessions on every Saturday morning from 8:30 am until noon, every Wednesday evening (except the 3rd Wednesday) from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, and every Thursday evening from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Experienced members are usually on hand to answer questions and offer help.
Save money with our Sponsors. By being a member you get a 10% discount from Woodcraft in Lenexa, KS, Schutte Lumber in Kansas City, MO. and Metro Hardwoods in Independence, MO.
See how the experts do it! We are committed to having nationally known Woodturners in to demonstrate for us. We will attempt to have one as often as scheduling permits. There will be a modest fee for these programs. Members and non-members are welcome to attend.
We meet on the 2nd Monday of each month @7:00 at:
1717 Washington Street,
Kansas City MO, 64108

MEETINGS and COVID-19:
The City of KCMO mask mandate for meetings is no longer in effect. You may still wear a mask if you like. We will also continue to Zoom the meeting to those members that don't feel comfortable at an in-person meeting or just can't attend the meeting in person. The Zoom details will be emailed to members the week before the meeting.
THE NEXT REGULAR MEETING: July 14th Regular Meeting: KC Woodturner member Jim Garner will demonstrate how to create his woven textured bowls, vases and platters. This is a very interesting and fascinating texturing method. They really look woven. July 14th Woodturning Challenge: The Challenge will be to turn a miniature police baton for a tree ornament (the club might make these to sell to police departments as suggested by Gary Mundhenke). It will be acceptable to turn a bit larger baton as a tire thumper for your 18-wheeler.
RENEWED 2025 Members: Your new 2025 KCWT Membership Cards are available in the metal cardfile box in the Clubhouse Lobby window as soon as you renew. Pick yours up anytime the clubhouse is open (see the Guild open shop schedule).
NEW 2025 Members: Your new KCWT Name Badges and Membership Cards will be stored on the KC Woodturners badge rack inside the front door to the right of the clubhouse main entrance door.
Current KCWT membership cards give members 10% discount on non-electrical items at Woodcraft, Metro Hardwoods, Schutte Lumber, Rockler, Penn State, and Klingspor. This 10% discount is an enormous member benefit. Many members use this benefit to pay for their dues many times over.
FUTURE MEETING DEMOS:
August 11th Regular Meeting: KC Woodturner member Don Frank will demonstrate bowl coring using the OneWay Bowl Coring Tool.
OPEN TURNING:
Open Turning in our lathe room is scheduled for Wednesday (except 3rd Wednesday) and Thursday evenings 6:00pm to 9:00pm and on Saturday mornings 8:30am-noon. All eight lathes are available for use. You can always drop by and talk about a project. Coffee is free and so is the advice.
FUTURE EVENTS: Bingham Waggoner Antique and Craft Fair - July 12th, 2024 (Saturday) 9:00am - 3:00pm: The club will be there to sell club item and member personal items. If you are interested in parcipating contact Kevin Neelley (treas@kcwoodturners.org). We will meet early at the clubhouse to get the tent and supplies, then drive to Independence, MO. You are welcome to drop by to help (bring a lounge chair).
Local Block Party and Clubhouse Open House - September 14th, 2024 (Sunday): We are not sure about the start time of the event, so please check back. The KC Woodturners facilities will be part of this open house. Please drop by to participate and maybe help with the festivities.
