MEETINGS and COVID-19:
The City of KCMO mask mandate for meetings is no longer in effect. You may still wear a mask if you like. We will also continue to Zoom the meeting to those members that don't feel comfortable at an in-person meeting or just can't attend the meeting in person. The Zoom details will be emailed to members the week before the meeting.
October 14th Regular Meeting: Each member is invited to bring and show a tool that they really like and has been helpful to them as a woodturner. Bring two tools if you like but be sure to relate how the tool you bring has helped you. October 14th Challenge: Turn a top of any sort.
Renewed Members: Please remember to pick up your 2024 KCWT Membership Card at any Woodturners regular meeting or any time the clubhouse is open (see Guild schedule). The metal card file box is beside the Guild membership card file box on the walnut counter at the clubhouse entry way. When you pay your 2024 dues, your new 2024 KCWT Membership Card will be in the metal card file box.
New members name badges and membership cards will be stored on the KC Woodturners badge rack inside the front door to the right.
Current KCWT membership cards give members 10% discount on non-electrical items at Woodcraft, Metro Hardwoods, Schutte Lumber, Rockler, Penn State, and Klingspor. This 10% discount is an enormous member benefit. Many members use this benefit to pay for their dues many times over.
FUTURE MEETING DEMOS: Watch this space.
OPEN TURNING:
Open Turning in our lathe room is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday evenings 6:00pm to 9:00pm and on Saturday mornings 8:30am-noon. All eight lathes are available for use. You can always drop by and talk about a project. David Alexander is the Shop Opener on Saturday mornings. Anthony Harris will be the Shop Opener on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
FUTURE EVENTS:
Shop Cleanup. Saturday, November 16th, 2024, 10:00am until done. We need volunteers to make this go as quickly as possible. We would like to have the shop clean for the Santa's Workshop event. No turning until cleanup is complete. Sweep and vacuum, clean air filters, empty trash cans.
Santa's Workshop. Saturday and Sunday November 23-24. 10:00am-5:30pm each day. This is a combined event with the KC Woodworker Guild and will take place in the clubhouse common area. The Guild will assemble free toy trucks for the kids and the Woodturners will make tops and install them on the truck beds. The club will very likely sell donated items and there will be personal sales by members. Sign up using the Guild's Signup Genius email.
Annual Holiday Party is Monday, December 9th 7:00pm at the clubhouse. All KC Woodturners and families are invited. This will be a pot luck event. There will be a voluntary hand-turned gift exchange - bring a gift and get a gift - bring something that you would like to get. There will be a voluntary turning competition event that should be a lot of fun for all turners and viewers.
