AAW 2017 Symposium

Keep Turning

2017 Symposium

This page is created to inform you about the 2017 AAW Symposium which will be here in Kansas City at Bartle Hall. Our hope is that you will check back from time to time to see the new information that is posted. The symposium dates are June 23-24-25, 2017.

One of the elements of the Symposium, and an important one, is the AAW returning to the community through providing money to a local charity and Beads of Courage to support efforts of children who are battling with serious illness.

Beads Of Courage

What is the Beads of Courage Program?

The Program is a resilience-based intervention designed to support and strengthen children and families coping with serious illness. Through the program children tell their story using colorful beads as meaningful symbols of courage that commemorate milestones they have achieved along their unique treatment path.

How Does it Work?

Upon enrollment each child is given the Beads of Courage bead color guide with a detachable membership card. Their Beads of Courage journey begins when each child is first given a length of string and beads that spell out their first name. Then, colorful beads, each representing a different treatment milestone are given to the child by their professional health care provider to add to their Beads of Courage collection throughout their treatment as determined by the Beads of Courage Bead Guide (available from Beads of Courage, Inc.)

The AAW is very committed to making sure that the community, as a whole, receives a benefit from having the Symposium in their city. One of the ways that it does that is through the Bowls for Kids Program.
Woodturners make bowls and donate them to the program. These bowls are then placed in a specific area of the Instant Gallery at the Symposium. Attendees donate $25.00 to enter the area and pick any bowl of their choice to take home with them. The bowl can be any size and plain or decorated. The turner is limited only by imagination.
